| V Jay Theatre Productions is a dynamic company offering a variety of services, established 15 years ago by Victor Richards. Based in the City
of Leicester in England, our work takes us all over the UK and has been taken to an international level!
We write and produce one-man productions exploring issues such as identity, sense of belonging and communication - our services are also available for productions which are already underway but need finishing touches or another pair of eyes studying the finer detail of them.
We also run drama workshops geared for different age groups and abilities.
The company continues to diverse, evolving our performances into the field of spoken word
and, with the help of this new website, using forums to enable the post-performance discussions that take place to carry on beyond the day of the performance and around the world! Already acclaimed for his one-man plays (Streets Paved With Gold, Return to the Caribbean and Children of the First Generation), Victor now brings his unique experience, sensitivity and perspective to his first poetry trilogy. Initially adopting the persona of first-generation Barbadian Augustus Cleveland Johnson, every poignant word takes you on a heart-wrenching journey through the decades. You'll share the joys and disappointment as he builds his new life. Later, his son Granville takes up the storyteller's baton to highlight British West Indians' experiences from 1948 to the present. From the double standards of Church officialdom to Teddy Boys' racial violence; from the cool soul and reggae of Blues MCs to doting Caribbean mothers,all life is present in the acute observation, humour and emotion of Victor's writing.
